The OfficeHours.fm podcast has come a long way since it’s original launch in 2014. With well over 100 episodes and two seasons in the books, I’m excited about what’s in store for Season 3.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about podcasting (I’ve learned a lot more than one, but bear with me) it’s that a podcast takes on a life of it’s own. I tried to wrangle Season 1 around the Genesis Framework, but the show was bigger than that. Season 2 saw a shift toward building a business with WordPress products and services, but I think the show is more than that, too.
What I’ve discovered is that Officehours.fm fosters community, connection and knowledge sharing… it just happens to be in a podcast format and a whole lot of us have WordPress in common.
So what will Season 3 bring?
A new format
Well, for starters, a new format. The show will still air weekly, but instead of the live audio/video format, episodes will be pre-recorded (audio-only). They’ll also be slimmed down from the 60-minute mark to something closer to 30-35 minutes.
Moving to a more traditional, pre-recorded show gives me the opportunity to better polish each episode. The condensed timeframe also gives listeners the option to enjoy the show, but without as much of a time investment.
No live show?
But here’s the deal… I have so enjoyed recording the show live. Having a live audience and being “on the spot” made for great energy and some interesting discussions that wouldn’t have taken place otherwise. I don’t want to lose that, so I’m going with a hybrid format.
In addition to the weekly, pre-recorded shows, I’ll host a live show once a month. With a rotating panel of guests, we’ll still have the opportunity for off-the-cuff conversations and the fun of interacting with a live audience.
Instead of the daytime spot the show ran in, the live show will in the evening. An “after hours” Office Hours, if you will! This will give new listeners a chance to tune in live that couldn’t previously due to scheduling. And since it’s after hours, the tone will be relaxed and informal.
What to watch for
While I’m not announcing the official start date yet, the plan is to re-boot the show late Fall.
I’ll continue bringing on awesome guests to share their knowledge and experiences, I’ll continue having a lot of fun doing it, and my hope is that you’ll have a blast learning and connecting with me along the way.
